Oppau, Germany is in the Palatine area, just a few miles northwest of Mannheim, just a few miles from the Rhine. Here are some maps that show its location. Oppau is in the center of each map, where the little pushpin is. The maps are quite large -- about 450K each.

Many people immigrated to the US from Oppau in the first part of the 18th century.  Many of  those who immigrated went to the Palatine area of Pennsylvania near York, with many others going to Meigs County, Ohio. Here is a discussion group about them.

Oppau and the neighboring village of Edigheim have been long occupied. The first documentary mention of Edigheim was in 772 and, for Oppau, 808.
